Georgia Competitive Shooters defeats Rio Salado Sportsman's Club

Georgia Competitive Shooters defeated Rio Salado Sportsman's Club 1559 to 1531 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Georgia Competitive Shooters is in second place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 5 - 1 record. Georgia Competitive Shooters was led by, Molly McGhin who shot a 396. The remaining contributing members were Anusha Pakkam, Addy Burrow, and Sam Burrow. Georgia Competitive Shooters is from Griffin, GA, and is coached by Lisa Kelley.

Rio Salado Sportsman's Club currently has a 3 - 3 record. After the loss they are in fourth place overall and third place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Rio Salado Sportsman's Club was led by, Roman Karadsheh who shot a 387. The remaining contributing members were Brooklyn Wilkins, Mikayla Sedgwick, and Hunter Mantle. Rio Salado Sportsman's Club is from Mesa, AZ, and is coached by John Karadsheh.

Next up Georgia Competitive Shooters will compete against Robinson High School from FAIRFAX, VA. Robinson High School currently has a 5 - 1 record. While Rio Salado Sportsman's Club will compete against Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club from Stratford, CT. Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club currently has a 3 - 3 record.

These two teams are competing in the Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the conference. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
