Chaparral NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Eastern AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Chaparral NJROTC edged out Eastern AJROTC 767.8 to 765.0 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. They currently have a 2 - 0 record. Chaparral NJROTC was led by, John Acosta who shot a 216.7. The remaining contributing members were Jesus Romero, Diego Dalvalos, and Paloma Ofarrill. Chaparral NJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by John Becker.
Eastern AJROTC currently has a 0 - 2 record. Eastern AJROTC was led by, Amanda Irizarry who shot a 237.4. The remaining contributing members were Conner Song, Zinash Cox, and Grace Karem. Eastern AJROTC is from Louisville, KY, and is coached by John D Sallee.
Next up Chaparral NJROTC will compete against Northeast AJROTC from Pride, LA. Northeast AJROTC currently has a 0 - 0 record. While Eastern AJROTC will compete against Topeka MCJROTC from Topeka, KS. Topeka MCJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
