Loveland AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Ansbach AJROTC
Loveland AJROTC edged out Ansbach AJROTC 1007.6 to 990.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Loveland AJROTC is in eighth place overall and second place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 1 record. Loveland AJROTC was led by, William Fritz who shot a 257.4. The remaining contributing members were Danika Eisentraut, Ryan Cajka, and Seth Menard. Loveland AJROTC is from Loveland, CO, and is coached by Harold Johnson.
Ansbach AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record. After the loss they are in twenty-second place overall and fifth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Ansbach AJROTC was led by, Joxel Ortega-Velez who shot a 257.7. The remaining contributing members were Jorge Ortega-Velez, Aydin Walker, and Kalea Russell. Ansbach AJROTC is from Ansbach, Germany, and is coached by Christopher Buchanan.
Next up Loveland AJROTC will compete against Northgate AFJROTC from Newnan, GA. Northgate AFJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While Ansbach AJROTC will compete against Juneau District Rifle Team from Juneau, AK. Juneau District Rifle Team currently has a 3 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
