Fountain Fort Carson AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Abraham Lincoln AJROTC
The four versus five seed game did not disappoint. Fourth seed Fountain Fort Carson AJROTC edged out fifth seed Abraham Lincoln AJROTC by just two points, 1081 to 1079 in the National Air Rifle League Sporter Tournament.
Fountain Fort Carson AJROTC advanced to the post-season after a second place finish in the Army JROTC Champions Division. They finished the regular season with an impressive 6 - 1 record in arguable the most difficult division in the league.
In their quarter final game, Fountain Fort Carson AJROTC was led by Brianna MITTA who shot a 273. The remaining contributing members were Aquamarine Alvarez, Alexander Ball , Aireonna GONZALES, and Alani Thompson. Fountain Fort Carson AJROTC is from Fountain, CO, and is coached by Rodney Smith.
In the regular season Abraham Lincoln AJROTC dominated the Army JROTC Distinguished Division, finishing with a perfect 7 - 0 record. This was Abraham Lincoln AJROTC's first year in the league. Thanks to their success in the regular season they are guaranteed a spot in the top tier Champions Division next year.

The post-season tournament is for the top eight teams in the National Air Rifle Sporter League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season that concluded in November. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, going on now, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
