Walton County 4-H Advances to Finals, After Narrowly Defeating Carroll County 4-H
Walton County 4-H edged out the defending league champion Carroll County 4-H 1884 to 1880 last week in the National BB Gun League Semi-Finals. Walton County 4-H was led by Lucy Peters who shot a 383. The remaining contributing members were Jordan Smothers, Preston Hall, Jackson Davis, and Brycen Gran. Walton County 4-H is from Monroe, GA, and is coached by William Carlan.
Walton County 4-H advances to the League Championship game this week where they will take on Pierre Junior Shooters. These two teams meet in the second week of the the regular season where Pierre Junior Shooters won 1889 to 1879. Uniquely, these two teams are the last two Daisy National BB Gun Champions. Walton County 4-H won in 2015 and Pierre Junior Shooters won in 2016.
Walton County 4-H made it to the post season after finishing second in the Champions Division with a 6 - 1 record. They were seeded first in the tournament thanks to having the highest seasonal average in the league.
This was the second time in league history that Walton County 4-H and Carroll County 4-H meet in the post-season. Last year Carroll County 4-H defeated Walton County 4-H in the final game to win the league's inaugural championship.
In their semi-final game Carroll County 4-H was led by Thomas Harris who shot a 385. The remaining contributing members were Collin Grubbs, Sara Jennings, Benjamin McDermitt, and Sierra Brooks. Carroll County 4-H is from Bowdon, GA, and is coached by Scott Carroll.
Carroll County 4-H finished the regular season in fourth place in the Champions Division with a 4 - 3 record. Thanks to their finish Carroll County 4-H is guaranteed a spot in the prestigious Champions Division in 2018.
These two teams are competing in the Post-Season Tournament of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season. Followed by a single-elimination tournament for the top four teams who are competing for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is the sum of each team's five athletes.
