North Mesquite AJROTC defeats Seneca Valley AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season North Mesquite AJROTC defeated Seneca Valley AJROTC 1000 to 937 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, North Mesquite AJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 2 - 1 record. North Mesquite AJROTC was led by Adriana Robles who shot a 254. The remaining contributing members were Nathalie Rios, Bradley Srader, and Jorge Perez. North Mesquite AJROTC is from Mesquite, TX, and is coached by Billy Tollison.
Snapping a two game win streak Seneca Valley AJROTC dropped to 2 - 1 on the season. They are currently in fourth place in their Division. Seneca Valley AJROTC was led by Andrew Tate who shot a 243. The remaining contributing members were Mackenna Omara, Joshua Thompson, and Caitlin Wroblewski. Seneca Valley AJROTC is from Harmony, PA, and is coached by 1SG Angelo Lettiere.
Next up North Mesquite AJROTC will compete against Palo Verde Valley AJROTC from Blythe, CA. Palo Verde Valley AJROTC currently has a 0 - 2 record. Seneca Valley AJROTC will compete against Auburn AJROTC from Rockford, IL. Auburn AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Governors Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now, where teams compete for their Division's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all divisions advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
