Joliet Central AJROTC Upsets Seneca Valley AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Joliet Central AJROTC upset Seneca Valley AJROTC 975 to 966 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Joliet Central AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 9 points lower than Seneca Valley AJROTC coming into this game.
With the win, Joliet Central AJROTC is in eighth place in their Division with a 1 - 5 record. Joliet Central AJROTC was led by Calli Cromwell who shot a 252. The remaining contributing members were Jose Garcia, Adrian Zamudio, and Hannah Rausch. Joliet Central AJROTC is from Joliet, IL, and is coached by SFC Craig Foster.
Seneca Valley AJROTC dropped to 2 - 4 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Seneca Valley AJROTC was led by Nathan Adomaitis who shot a 250. Next up Joliet Central AJROTC will compete against Auburn AJROTC from Rockford, IL. Auburn AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. Seneca Valley AJROTC will compete against C. T. Johnson AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. C. T. Johnson AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Governors Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now, where teams compete for their Division's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all divisions advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
