R-S Central MCJROTC defeated Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC 1067 to 983 last week in the National Air Rifle League. R-S Central MCJROTC finishes the season in third place in their Division with a 5 - 2 record. R-S Central MCJROTC was led by Cheyenne Downey who shot a 274. The remaining contributing members were Christina Murphy, Samantha Phipps, and Emily Williams. R-S Central MCJROTC is from Rutherfordton, NC, and is coached by Maj CJ Brown.

Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC dropped to 1 - 6 on the season. They finish the season in seventh place in their Division. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC was led by Elijah Charley who shot a 266. The remaining contributing members were Barbara Baca, Caleb Horton, and Amber Navarrete. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC is from Albuquerque, NM, and is coached by GYSGT Tim Shaner.

R-S Central will go on to represent Marine Corps JROTC in the post-season Invitational Tournament. They are the number three seed and will compete against six seed Captain Shreve AJROTC in the opening round game. The post-season will begin the week after Thanksgiving.

These two teams are competing in the Marine Corps JROTC Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now, where teams compete for their Division's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all divisions advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
