North Gwinnett High School Upsets Clallam County 4-H
Shooting their highest score of the season North Gwinnett High School upset Clallam County 4-H 1383 to 1356 last week in the National Air Rifle League. North Gwinnett High School was able to win despite averaging 30 points lower than Clallam County 4-H coming into this game.
With the win, North Gwinnett High School is in first place in their Division with a 3 - 1 record. North Gwinnett High School was led by Shreya Sastry who shot a 358. The remaining contributing members were Ethan Woyce, Matt Herrington, and Caitlyn Miller. North Gwinnett High School is from Sugar Hill, GA, and is coached by Phil Olsen, Steve Hartshorne, Robert Herrington, and Lauren Herrington.
Snapping a two game win streak Clallam County 4-H dropped to 2 - 1 on the season. They are currently in second place in their Division. Clallam County 4-H was led by Levi Bergren who shot a 359. The remaining contributing members were Bailey Geniesse, Cheyenne Maggard, and Mikayla Geniesse. Clallam County 4-H is from Carlsborg, WA, and is coached by Seth Geniesse.

These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
