Christian County AFJROTC Narrowly Defeats Nation Ford MCJROTC

Seventh seed Christian County AFJROTC edged out second seed Nation Ford MCJROTC 1086 to 1080 last week in the National Air Rifle League Invitational Tournament. Christian County AFJROTC improved their overall record to 7 - 1. Christian County AFJROTC was led by Daniel Foti who shot a 280. The remaining contributing members were Dakota Steward, Megan Graff, David Johnson, and Chelsy Biddle. Christian County AFJROTC is from Hopkinsville, KY, and is coached by Maj Robert Marlow.

Christian County AFJROTC will advance to the semi-final round this week where they will take on sixth seed Captain Shreve AJROTC from Shreveport, LA. This will be the first meeting between these two teams.

Nation Ford MCJROTC finishes the season with a 5 - 3 record, which included a second place finish in the MCJROTC Champions Division. Nation Ford MCJROTC was led by Deonte Hayes who shot a 277. The remaining contributing members were Nick Noto, Sarah Leininger, Jordyn Brooks, and Preston Jaeger. Nation Ford MCJROTC is from Fort Mill, SC, and is coached by Sean Mulcahy.

The post-season Invitational Tournament is reserved for some of the top teams in the National Air Rifle Sporter League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season that concluded in November. Followed by two single-elimination tournaments, going on now, for the top teams.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
