Gwinnett Shooting Sports defeats Lyon County 4-H
Shooting their highest score of the season Gwinnett Shooting Sports defeated Lyon County 4-H 1918.8 to 1803.8 last week in the National BB Gun League. Their third win in a row, Gwinnett Shooting Sports is in second place in their Division with a 3 - 0 record. Gwinnett Shooting Sports was led by Chase Trammell who shot a 398.7. The remaining contributing members were Matt Herrington, Bailey Wagner, Logan Borneman, and Alec Borneman. Gwinnett Shooting Sports is from Sugar Hill, GA, and is coached by Robert Herrington.
Lyon County 4-H dropped to 1 - 2 on the season. They are currently in sixth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Lyon County 4-H was led by Garland Hanlin who shot a 383.2. The remaining contributing members were Karalyn Karjala, Ava Karcher, Jonas Kern, and Landon Dody. Lyon County 4-H is from Emporia, KS, and is coached by Trenna Hanlin.
Next up Gwinnett Shooting Sports will compete against Bend of the River from Cookeville, TN. Bend of the River currently has a 2 - 0 record. Lyon County 4-H will compete against Candler County 4-H from Metter, GA. Candler County 4-H currently has a 0 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is scored with tenth of a ring accuracy and worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
