West Broward AJROTC defeats A. C. Mosley MCJROTC
West Broward AJROTC defeated A. C. Mosley MCJROTC 1024 to 972 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, West Broward AJROTC is in third place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' division. They currently have a 1 - 0 record. West Broward AJROTC was led by Lauren White who shot a 275. The remaining contributing members were Nistula Seshadri, Joseph Carpio, and Andrea Aylwin. West Broward AJROTC is from Pembroke Pines, FL, and is coached by LTC Kenneth Merkel.
A. C. Mosley MCJROTC currently has a 0 - 1 record. After the loss they are in twentieth place overall and fifth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' division. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC was led by Emma Hearin who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Jocelyn Dabbs, Connor Dagel , and Marisol Graczyk. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC is from Lynn Haven, FL, and is coached by Ken Hicks.
Next up West Broward AJROTC will compete against Palo Verde Valley AJROTC from Blythe, CA. Palo Verde Valley AJROTC currently has a 1 - 0 record. While A. C. Mosley MCJROTC will compete against Blythewood AJROTC from Blythewood, SC. Blythewood AJROTC currently has a 1 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
