Gallatin NJROTC defeats Englewood AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Gallatin NJROTC defeated Englewood AJROTC 920 to 799 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. They currently have a 2 - 0 record. Gallatin NJROTC was led by Helen Kiser who shot a 242. The remaining contributing members were Christian Blizzard, Erin Williams, and Claudia Roberts. Gallatin NJROTC is from Gallatin, TN, and is coached by Duff Thompson.
Englewood AJROTC currently has a 0 - 2 record. Shooting their highest team score of the season Englewood AJROTC was led by Angelis Vigo who shot a 218. The remaining contributing members were Kiara Walker, Briseli Legoretalopez, and Daniela Ramos. Englewood AJROTC is from Jacksonville, FL, and is coached by 1SG Terry L. Daniel.
This coming week Gallatin NJROTC has a bye week. While Englewood AJROTC will compete against Washburn Rural AFJROTC from Topeka, KS. Washburn Rural AFJROTC currently has a 0 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
