Grove City NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Newark AFJROTC
Grove City NJROTC edged out Newark AFJROTC 952 to 937 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. They currently have a 3 - 1 record. Grove City NJROTC was led by Megan June who shot a 243. The remaining contributing members were Coty Bish, Jada Epps, and Quentin Baker. Grove City NJROTC is from Grove City, OH, and is coached by CDR Dustin Martin.
Newark AFJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record. After the loss they are in third place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Newark AFJROTC was led by Hunter Holliday who shot a 239. The remaining contributing members were Jadyn Moore, Cassidy Davis, and Storm Powell. Newark AFJROTC is from Newark, OH, and is coached by MSgt Christopher Soto.
Next up Grove City NJROTC will compete against American Legion Woodbridge Post 364 from Woodbridge, VA. American Legion Woodbridge Post 364 currently has a 1 - 2 record. While Newark AFJROTC will compete against South Plantation AJROTC from Plantation, FL. South Plantation AJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
