West Broward AJROTC defeats Moberly AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season West Broward AJROTC defeated Moberly AJROTC 1037 to 998 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, West Broward AJROTC is in fourth place overall and second place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 0 record. West Broward AJROTC was led by Nistula Seshadri who shot a 262. The remaining contributing members were Lauren White, Andrea Aylwin, and Joseph Carpio. West Broward AJROTC is from Pembroke Pines, FL, and is coached by LTC Kenneth Merkel.
Snapping a four game win streak Moberly AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. After the loss they are in thirteenth place overall and eighth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Moberly AJROTC was led by Shelby Noel who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were Amber Deling, Mikel Short, and Luke Noel. Moberly AJROTC is from Moberly, MO, and is coached by Dana Lescoe.
Next up West Broward AJROTC will compete against St Pauls AJROTC from St Pauls, NC. St Pauls AJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. While Moberly AJROTC will compete against Lake Houston 4-H from Kingwood, TX. Lake Houston 4-H currently has a 3 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
