Moberly AJROTC defeats Lake Houston 4-H
Shooting their highest score of the season Moberly AJROTC defeated Lake Houston 4-H 1002 to 924 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Moberly AJROTC is in fifteenth place overall and tenth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 1 record. Moberly AJROTC was led by, Shelby Noel who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Luke Noel, Amber Deling, and Logan Lescoe. Moberly AJROTC is from Moberly, MO, and is coached by Dana Lescoe.
Lake Houston 4-H currently has a 3 - 2 record. After the loss they are in fifth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Lake Houston 4-H was led by, Kayla Ressler who shot a 249. The remaining contributing members were Abigail Weed, Carissa Wallace, and Chance Stephens. Lake Houston 4-H is from Kingwood, TX, and is coached by Steven Schammel.
Next up Moberly AJROTC will compete against Norview NJROTC from Norfolk, VA. Norview NJROTC currently has a 5 - 0 record. While Lake Houston 4-H will compete against Hazel Green NJROTC from Hazel Green, AL. Hazel Green NJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
