United South MCJROTC defeats Binghamton Rifle Club
United South MCJROTC defeated Binghamton Rifle Club 1047 to 998 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. United South MCJROTC finishes the season in second place overall and first place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 1 record. United South MCJROTC was led by, Diego Hernandez who shot a 264. The remaining contributing members were Antonio Munoz, Abdiel Lara, and Matthew Altman. United South MCJROTC is from Laredo, TX, and is coached by James Jordan.
Binghamton Rifle Club finished the season with a 4 - 2 record. They finishes the season in nineteenth place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Binghamton Rifle Club was led by, Simon Joyner who shot a 260. The remaining contributing members were Claudia Allen, Jonah Allen, and Jennifer Huang. Binghamton Rifle Club is from Binghamton, NY, and is coached by Peter Matwey.
Next up United South MCJROTC will compete against McDowell NJROTC from marion, NC. McDowell NJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record. While Binghamton Rifle Club will compete against Shawnee Mission North NJROTC from Shawnee Mission, KS. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
