Hopewell AJROTC Upsets West Broward AJROTC
Hopewell AJROTC upset West Broward AJROTC 1029 to 1006 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Hopewell AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 19 points lower than West Broward AJROTC coming into this game.
Their second win in a row. Hopewell AJROTC finishes the season in seventh place overall and fifth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 1 record. Hopewell AJROTC was led by, Kadin Bertucci who shot a 264. The remaining contributing members were Korlee Burton, Payden Heckman, and Kayla McClendon. Snapping a two game win streak West Broward AJROTC finished the season with a 5 - 1 record. They finishes the season in fourth place overall and second place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. West Broward AJROTC was led by, Lauren White who shot a 261. The remaining contributing members were Nistula Seshadri, Joelle Lanoue, and Joseph Carpio. West Broward AJROTC is from Pembroke Pines, FL, and is coached by LTC Kenneth Merkel.
Next up Hopewell AJROTC will compete against Dallastown Area MCJROTC from Dallastown, PA. Dallastown Area MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record. While West Broward AJROTC will compete against Pueblo West AJROTC from Pueblo West, CO. Pueblo West AJROTC currently has a 6 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
