New Caney AJROTC Upsets Northeast MCJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season New Caney AJROTC upset Northeast MCJROTC 1019 to 1010 last week in the National Air Rifle League. New Caney AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 23 points lower than Northeast MCJROTC coming into this game.
New Caney AJROTC finishes the season in seventeenth place overall. They finished the season with a 4 - 2 record. New Caney AJROTC was led by, Cameron Richner who shot a 263. The remaining contributing members were Tristen Ivy, Jonathan Kramer, and Abigail Jaimes. New Caney AJROTC is from New Caney, TX, and is coached by CW5 Jimenez.
Northeast MCJROTC finished the season with a 5 - 1 record. They finishes the season in ninth place overall and second place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. Northeast MCJROTC was led by, Justin Hughes who shot a 257. The remaining contributing members were Cecilia Swarthout, Christopher Kroh, and Scott Creamer. Northeast MCJROTC is from Pasadena, MD, and is coached by Kevin Jenkins.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
