Lebanon AJROTC defeats Summerlin Academy AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Lebanon AJROTC defeated Summerlin Academy AJROTC 1109 to 1069 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their seventh win in a row. Lebanon AJROTC finishes the regular season in third place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 7 - 0 record. Lebanon AJROTC was led by, Logan Hibbert who shot a 281. The remaining contributing members were Kate Slingluff, Jake Slingluff, and Hailey Clevenger. Lebanon AJROTC is from Lebanon, OR, and is coached by Mark Smith.
Summerlin Academy AJROTC finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record. They finishes the season in fifth place overall and third place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Summerlin Academy AJROTC was led by, Taylor Helms who shot a 270. The remaining contributing members were Stephanie Salvucci, Emily Rauscher, and Madison Meacham. Summerlin Academy AJROTC is from Bartow, FL, and is coached by Steven beck.
Both Lebanon AJROTC and Summerlin Academy AJROTC will advance to the postseason's Championship Tournament. Respectively they are the number three and five seeds. Lebanon AJROTC will take on Saint Thomas Academy (4 - 3) in their quarterfinal matchup. Summerlin Academy AJROTC will take on Pueblo County AJROTC (5 - 2). The postseason begins 26 November 2018.
These two teams are competing in the Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Divisions is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, where teams compete for their conference's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all conferences advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
