Grant County AJROTC defeats New Bern NJROTC
Grant County AJROTC defeated New Bern NJROTC 957 to 914 in the National Air Rifle New Shooter League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Grant County AJROTC is in fifteenth place overall. They currently have a 4 - 1 record. Grant County AJROTC was led by, Abigail Kanewske who shot a 261. The remaining contributing members were Cecilia Reed, Caleb Newton, and Nolan O'Connor. Grant County AJROTC is from Dry Ridge, KY, and is coached by CSM Charles Duffee.
New Bern NJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. New Bern NJROTC was led by, AungMyint Oo who shot a 244. The remaining contributing members were Dante Hasty-Chestnut, Elizabeth Snyder, and Son Tzu. New Bern NJROTC is from New Bern, NC, and is coached by LCDR Ronald Fry.
This coming week Grant County AJROTC has a bye week. While New Bern NJROTC will compete against Kaiser High School from Honolulu, HI. Kaiser High School currently has a 2 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the National Air Rifle "New Shooter" League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league exclusive to athletes in their first year of competition. Teams are from high schools and junior rifle clubs throughout the United States. Over 10 weeks each team competes in 8 games. Each week, each team is paired with another team with a near equal win-loss record.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
