Rio Salado Sportsman's Club Narrowly Defeats East Coweta MCJROTC
Rio Salado Sportsman's Club edged out East Coweta MCJROTC 1587.9 to 1582.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Rio Salado Sportsman's Club finishes the regular season in fifth place overall and third place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. Rio Salado Sportsman's Club was led by, Roman Karadsheh who shot a 407.8. The remaining contributing members were Mikayla Sedgwick, Brooklyn Wilkins, and Jacob Shaw. Rio Salado Sportsman's Club is from Mesa, AZ, and is coached by John Karadsheh.
Snapping a two game win streak East Coweta MCJROTC finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record. They finishes the season in eighth place overall and fifth place within their 'Jrotc' conference. East Coweta MCJROTC was led by, Bo Saavedra who shot a 401.2. The remaining contributing members were Enelyn Diaz Perez, Taylor Thom, and Knsley Hannon. East Coweta MCJROTC is from Sharpsburg, GA, and is coached by Peter Merrill.
Both of these teams will advance to the postseason championship tournament. Rio Salado Sportsmans's Club is seeded fifth and will take on Georgia Competitive Shooters. East Coweta MCJROTC is seeded eighth and will compete against Granbury MCJROTC. The first round of the postseason starts December 2nd.
These two teams are competing in the Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the conference. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
