Grove City NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Union Pines NJROTC
Grove City NJROTC edged out Union Pines NJROTC 1090.2 to 1081.4 in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Grove City NJROTC was led by Caleb Griffin who shot a 287.1. The remaining contributing members were Sebastian Anthony, Austin Hunter, and Jack Bowyer. They are from Grove City, OH, and are coached by CDR Dustin Martin.
Grove City NJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in sixth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they finish in first place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.
Shooting their highest team score of the season Union Pines NJROTC was led by Emily Coombe who shot a 290.3. The remaining contributing members were Camden Deibel, Ethan Simpson, and Angel Apolinar. Union Pines NJROTC is from Cameron, NC, and is coached by Timothy Winn.
Union Pines NJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in sixteenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they finish in seventh place. They finished the regular season with a 2 - 5 record.
Grove City NRJTOC will continue on to post-season play. They will compete in the Distinguished Division NJROTC Conference Title Game against Stoney Point NJROTC. This game will be the week of December 2nd.
Thanks to their performance this season, both Grove City NJROTC and Union Pines NJROTC will compete in the Distinguished Division in the 2025 National Air Rifle League.
The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
