Mason-Dixon Jr. Rifle Club defeats MSYESS
Shooting their highest score of the season Mason-Dixon Jr. Rifle Club defeated MSYESS 1007.3 to 984.9 in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Mason-Dixon Jr. Rifle Club was led by Levi Kisner who shot a 271.3. The remaining contributing members were Chloe Mayle, Liam Ballard, and Tori Volk. They are from Morgantown, WV, and are coached by Michele Ballard.
Mason-Dixon Jr. Rifle Club is competing in the Elite Division where they finish the regular season in twelfth place. Within the Junior Rifle Club Conference they finish in fourth place. They finished the regular season with a 3 - 3 record.
MSYESS was led by Clay Marolt who shot a 253.4. The remaining contributing members were Priscilla McMahan, Janna Jones, and Austin Murphy. MSYESS is from Booneville, MS, and is coached by Rodney Murphy.
MSYESS is also competing in the Elite Division where they finish the regular season in tenth place. Within the Junior Rifle Club Conference they finish in third place. They finished the regular season with a 2 - 5 record.
Thanks to their performance this season, both MSYESS and Mason-Dixon Jr. Rifle Club qualified for the 2025 Distinguished Division.
The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
