Roaring Rifles Narrowly Defeats Lyon County 4-H
Roaring Rifles edged out Lyon County 4-H 1810.2 to 1792.6 last week in the National BB Gun League. With the win, Roaring Rifles is in third place in their Division with a 1 - 0 record. Roaring Rifles was led by Asiya Abdullah who shot a 373.2. The remaining contributing members were Joseph Simak, AJ Cavanaugh, Adam Reinsch, and Emily Shioutakon. Roaring Rifles is from Germantown, MD, and is coached by Ed Compton.
Lyon County 4-H dropped to 0 - 1 on the season. They are currently in sixth place in their Division. Lyon County 4-H was led by Karalyn Karjala who shot a 386.8. The remaining contributing members were Garland Hanlin, Ava Karcher, Landon Dody, and Jonas Kern. Lyon County 4-H is from Emporia, KS, and is coached by Trenna Hanlin.
Next up Roaring Rifles will compete against Gwinnett Shooting Sports from Sugar Hill, GA. Gwinnett Shooting Sports currently has a 1 - 0 record. Lyon County 4-H will compete against Buffalo County 4-H from Kearney, NE. Buffalo County 4-H currently has a 0 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is scored with tenth of a ring accuracy and worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
