Summerlin Academy AJROTC defeats Scarborough Fish and Game Association
Shooting their highest score of the season Summerlin Academy AJROTC defeated Scarborough Fish and Game Association 1487 to 1320 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Summerlin Academy AJROTC is in third place overall and second place within their 'Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 2 - 0 record. Summerlin Academy AJROTC was led by Jd Southwell who shot a 383. The remaining contributing members were Limari Colon , Chelsey Summerlin, and Allison Wagle. Summerlin Academy AJROTC is from Bartow, FL, and is coached by Steven Beck.
Scarborough Fish and Game Association currently has a 1 - 1 record. After the loss they are in eighth place overall and third place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Scarborough Fish and Game Association was led by Erin Schnupp who shot a 381. The remaining contributing members were Mackenzy McLaughlin, Lucas Wright, and Luke Schwerzke. Scarborough Fish and Game Association is from Scarborough, ME, and is coached by Roy Gorman.
Next up Summerlin Academy AJROTC will compete against Bethel AFJROTC from Spanaway, WA. Bethel AFJROTC currently has a 0 - 1 record. While Scarborough Fish and Game Association will compete against North Gwinnett High School from Sugar Hill, GA. North Gwinnett High School currently has a 2 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
