West Broward AJROTC Upsets United South MCJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season West Broward AJROTC upset United South MCJROTC 1034 to 1024 last week in the National Air Rifle League. West Broward AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 12 points lower than United South MCJROTC coming into this game.
Their third win in a row. With the win, West Broward AJROTC is in second place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. West Broward AJROTC was led by Lauren White who shot a 269. The remaining contributing members were Nistula Seshadri, Andrea Aylwin, and Joseph Carpio. West Broward AJROTC is from Pembroke Pines, FL, and is coached by LTC Kenneth Merkel.
Snapping a two game win streak United South MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in first place overall and first place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. United South MCJROTC was led by Diego Hernandez who shot a 258. The remaining contributing members were Simon Espino, Abdiel Lara, and Matthew Altman. United South MCJROTC is from Laredo, TX, and is coached by James Jordan.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
