Ridge Community AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Blythewood AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Ridge Community AJROTC edged out Blythewood AJROTC 1041 to 1023 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Ridge Community AJROTC is in first place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. Ridge Community AJROTC was led by Alondra Rodriguez who shot a 276. The remaining contributing members were Brandon Rivera, Hector Maisonet, and Rudy Locklear. Ridge Community AJROTC is from Davenport, FL, and is coached by John Durocher.
Blythewood AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in ninth place overall and fifth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Blythewood AJROTC was led by Austin Myers who shot a 261. The remaining contributing members were Katelyn Yates, Collin Flores, and Faith Mull. Blythewood AJROTC is from Blythewood, SC, and is coached by LTC Charles White.
Next up Ridge Community AJROTC will compete against New Braunfels MCJROTC from New Braunfels, TX. New Braunfels MCJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. While Blythewood AJROTC will compete against West Ashley NJROTC from Charleston, SC. West Ashley NJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
