Joliet Central AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Pearl River NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Joliet Central AJROTC edged out Pearl River NJROTC 1013 to 1006 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Joliet Central AJROTC finishes the season in seventeenth place overall. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. Joliet Central AJROTC was led by, Hannah Rausch who shot a 261. The remaining contributing members were Calli Cromwell, Rodolfo Castillo, and Brandon Sanchez. Joliet Central AJROTC is from Joliet, IL, and is coached by SFC Craig Foster.
Pearl River NJROTC finished the season with a 4 - 2 record. They finishes the season in twenty-third place overall and fourth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Pearl River NJROTC was led by, JaMyron Dorsey who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Summer Brown, Anna Lee, and Daniel Zechenelly. Pearl River NJROTC is from Pearl River, LA, and is coached by Timothy Lane.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
