Fort Bend County 4-H Narrowly Defeats Battle Ground AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Fort Bend County 4-H edged out Battle Ground AFJROTC 1445.7 to 1426.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Fort Bend County 4-H is in seventh place overall and second place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 1 - 2 record. Fort Bend County 4-H was led by, Mackenzie Pruden who shot a 394.7. The remaining contributing members were Nathan Rabel, Melody Juarez, and Douglas Carney. Fort Bend County 4-H is from Fulshear, TX, and is coached by Keith Pruden.
Battle Ground AFJROTC currently has a 0 - 3 record. After the loss they are in ninth place overall and seventh place within their 'Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Battle Ground AFJROTC was led by, Jameson Harpe who shot a 377.2. The remaining contributing members were Erica Moody, Parker Morrison, and Wyatt Moody. Battle Ground AFJROTC is from Battle Ground, WA, and is coached by Lt Col Andrew Woodrow.
Next up Fort Bend County 4-H will compete against Bethel AFJROTC from Spanaway, WA. Bethel AFJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record. While Battle Ground AFJROTC will compete against Rockcastle County AJROTC from Mount Vernon, KY. Rockcastle County AJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
