Marion AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Cowley 4-H Shooting Sports
Marion AJROTC edged out Cowley 4-H Shooting Sports 863 to 861 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. They currently have a 4 - 0 record. Marion AJROTC was led by, Tayler Garriott who shot a 250. The remaining contributing members were Daniel Yancey, Haden Montgomery, and Adam Baird. Marion AJROTC is from Marion, IN, and is coached by David Farlow.
Cowley 4-H Shooting Sports currently has a 2 - 2 record. After the loss they are in tenth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Cowley 4-H Shooting Sports was led by, Titus Mill who shot a 238. The remaining contributing members were Stetson Shook, McKenzie Deal, and Charles Hensley. Cowley 4-H Shooting Sports is from Winfield, KS, and is coached by Austin Waite.
This coming week Marion AJROTC has a bye week. While Cowley 4-H Shooting Sports will compete against American Legion Post 113 from Liverpool, NY. American Legion Post 113 currently has a 0 - 4 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
