Chandler Legion Crusaders defeats Cactus AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Chandler Legion Crusaders defeated Cactus AFJROTC 982 to 830 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Chandler Legion Crusaders is in seventh place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 3 - 1 record. Chandler Legion Crusaders was led by, Logan Towers who shot a 251. The remaining contributing members were Benjamin Joaquin, Jennifer Powers, and Tia Simon. Chandler Legion Crusaders is from Chandler, AZ, and is coached by Dennis Masters.
Cactus AFJROTC currently has a 1 - 3 record. After the loss they are in sixth place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. Cactus AFJROTC was led by, Hailey Grysho who shot a 231. The remaining contributing members were Jasmine Cervantes, James Cook, and Vania Rodriguez. Cactus AFJROTC is from Peoria, AZ, and is coached by Dan Palmer.
Next up Chandler Legion Crusaders will compete against Juneau School District Rifle Team from Juneau, AK. Juneau School District Rifle Team currently has a 3 - 1 record. While Cactus AFJROTC will compete against Henley AFJROTC from Klamath Falls, OR. Henley AFJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
