Warren Central MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats New Caney AJROTC
Warren Central MCJROTC edged out New Caney AJROTC 996 to 991 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Warren Central MCJROTC is in eighth place overall and second place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 1 record. Warren Central MCJROTC was led by, Cooper Williams who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were Marcus Redd, Aberim Gamble, and Malachi Line. New Caney AJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record. After the loss they are in twenty-second place overall and seventh place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. New Caney AJROTC was led by, Tristen Ivy who shot a 258. The remaining contributing members were Wilber Morales-Lumbreras(required), Kade Rawlins, and Abigail Jaimes-Alvarado. New Caney AJROTC is from New Caney, TX, and is coached by MSG(R) Joseph R. Lang.
Next up Warren Central MCJROTC will compete against Mauldin NJROTC from Mauldin, SC. Mauldin NJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record. While New Caney AJROTC will compete against Smith Station MCJROTC from Smith Station, AL. Smith Station MCJROTC currently has a 5 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
