Eldorado NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Union Pines NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Eldorado NJROTC edged out Union Pines NJROTC 1011 to 996 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Eldorado NJROTC is in twelfth place overall and fourth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 1 record. Eldorado NJROTC was led by, Francisco Pallanes who shot a 257. The remaining contributing members were Alain Zelim-Vega, Megan Spangler, and Daniel Ruiz. Eldorado NJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by Major Todd Hook.
Union Pines NJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record. After the loss they are in eighteenth place overall and fifth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Union Pines NJROTC was led by, Shaun Garza who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Jaida Holder, Will Baddour, and Shelby Motta. Union Pines NJROTC is from Whispering Pines, NC, and is coached by Keith Dangerfield.
Next up Eldorado NJROTC will compete against Onate NJROTC from Las Cruces, NM. Onate NJROTC currently has a 5 - 1 record. While Union Pines NJROTC will compete against Lafayette Gun Club from Grafton, VA. Lafayette Gun Club currently has a 5 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
