West AJROTC defeats Northview NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season West AJROTC defeated Northview NJROTC 1008.9 to 834.7 last week in the National Air Rifle League. West AJROTC was led by Geremiah Pedraza who shot a 278.4. The remaining contributing members were Alexandro Palma, Anais Aguirre, and Darvin Guerrero. They are from Denver, CO, and are coached by Jeffrey F Wilson.
West AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in forty-second place. They have a 3 - 1 record.
Northview NJROTC was led by Kate Stinson who shot a 251.0. The remaining contributing members were Talasha Curry, William Nowlin, and Damon McDuffie. Northview NJROTC is from Bratt, FL, and is coached by Jeff Simpkins Shane Ahalt.
Northview NJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in forty-eighth place. They have a 1 - 2 record.
Next up West AJROTC will compete against Cumberland Beagle Club from Cumberland, RI. Cumberland Beagle Club currently has a 0 - 3 record. While Northview NJROTC will compete against Brooke Point NJROTC from Stafford, VA. Brooke Point NJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
