Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club defeats Kealakehe Rifle Team
Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club defeated Kealakehe Rifle Team 952 to 792 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club is in fourth place in their Division with a 3 - 3 record. Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club was led by Elijah Boudreau who shot a 266. The remaining contributing members were Christina Correia, Hailey Gagnon, and Morgan Watson. Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club is from Manville, RI, and is coached by Aime Dubois.
Kealakehe Rifle Team dropped to 2 - 4 on the season. They are currently in sixth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Kealakehe Rifle Team was led by ARIANA KANESHIRO who shot a 236. These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
