Hickman County AJROTC Upsets Humboldt Sharpshooters
Shooting their highest score of the season Hickman County AJROTC upset Humboldt Sharpshooters 987 to 926 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Hickman County AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 50 points lower than Humboldt Sharpshooters coming into this game.
With the win, Hickman County AJROTC is in tenth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 2 - 1 record. Hickman County AJROTC was led by, Bailey McNeil who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Cameron Cheeves, James Smith, and Anna Holloway. Hickman County AJROTC is from Centerville, TN, and is coached by Charles Price.
Humboldt Sharpshooters currently has a 1 - 2 record. After the loss they are in fifth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Humboldt Sharpshooters was led by, Zoe Dissing who shot a 249. The remaining contributing members were Mya Dissing, Skyler Plucker, and Sutton Plucker. Humboldt Sharpshooters is from Hartford, SD, and is coached by Eric Dissing.
Next up Hickman County AJROTC will compete against James Madison AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. James Madison AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. While Humboldt Sharpshooters will compete against Lafayette Gun Club from Grafton, VA. Lafayette Gun Club currently has a 3 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
